NBA 2K27 Getting Started

NBA 2K27 is a Visual Concepts / 2K sim on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. The worldwide launch date is September 4, 2026. Deluxe and Ultra Early Access began August 26, 2026 at 9:00 AM PT. There is no last-gen version. Switch 2 is Standard Edition only. Crossplay is PlayStation 5 plus Xbox Series only; Steam and Switch 2 stay in their own pools.

This page is the first-week path, not a recap of every mode. If you do the five steps in order, you will spend less VC, take fewer Rec beatings, and actually use Season 1 instead of rage-rebuilding on day two.

Step 1: pick an edition before you touch the builder

Open the editions breakdown before you pay. Standard is $69.99 and is live as of the worldwide launch date of September 4, 2026. Deluxe is $99.99 with 100,000 VC plus the Early Access week that already ran. Ultra is $149.99 with 135,000 VC, Season 1 Pro Pass, and Summer Pass seasons 7–9. Ultra is sold through September 6, 2026. Pre-order adds 10,000 VC. 2K26 Ultra loyalty was 10 percent off through September 3, 2026; that window is closed.

Cover athletes are not gameplay: Victor Wembanyama on Standard, Caitlin Clark on Deluxe, Derrick Rose on Ultra. Buy the SKU for VC and access, not for a menu portrait. Switch 2 buyers do not have a Deluxe or Ultra choice, so plan a slower attribute climb and be stricter about the first build.

Step 2: build in NBA 2K HQ, then confirm on console

NBA 2K HQ has been live since August 21, 2026. Use it to run Create Your Own, Community Builds, or Signature Blueprints before you dump an edition’s VC. Read the MyPLAYER builder while you click. You get 53 badges, 20 slots, six disciplines including Physicals, and a cap-breaker preview once the card is at 99 overall. Legend badges are not on the creation screen. Rebirth later returns 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 percent of potential badge tokens after a 90 overall. Female MyPLAYERs use the same framework for The City.

Do not max a highlight-reel dunk package and starve Strength if you want Box Out Boss, Breaker, and Wall Up. Do not skip the 99 overall preview and then discover your cap-breaker plan is illegal. Screenshot the loadout. Then spend VC on console only after you have sat with the card for a night.

Step 3: Learn 2K for shooting and the dunk meter

Queue Learn 2K before Casual Corner. Controls and how to shoot are the two pages to keep on a phone. Shoot with Square on PlayStation 5 or X on Xbox, or with right stick down. Pass is X/A, bounce is Circle/B, lob is Triangle/Y, sprint is R2/RT, icon pass is R1/RB. On defense, intense D is L2/LT, steal is Square/X, block is Triangle/Y. Right-stick steal is gone.

Rhythm shooting uses a tick mark and you must green the timing. Every dunk has a meter, and the green window is dynamic based on the defender. Step-through is pump fake then Pro Stick in five directions. No-look is R1/RB plus Pro Stick to the target. Cutoff is a right-stick flick, or RT/R2 plus flick for a lunge. Hands-up is right stick up aggressive, down conservative. Patch 1.3 already cut Shot Artist and Calibrated Takeover, so do not copy August 26 clips as gospel.

Stay in Learn 2K until you can green a catch-and-shoot, a moving three, and a standing dunk without guessing. Rec does not owe you a tutorial.

Step 4: Casual Corner, not Rec

Walk into The City through Casual Corner. It is co-ed, optional, and plate-based: Casual, Hooper, Baller, Pro, then you outgrow it. 3v3 and 5v5 here exist so you can learn the new cutoff and dunk meter against a pool that is not farming 99s. When the plate says you have outgrown the hub, Rec, Theater, and Park are waiting. Rec rotates five venues. Theater is outdoor. Ante-Up is rooftop. Season 1’s park is Lion & Vine. Street Kings runs The Hollows, Claremont, and Rucker Park.

Crew HQ is a squad home with ranked tiers from Bronze through Top Ranked. You do not need a crew on night one. You do need to stop queueing Rec on a 78 overall because a friend is impatient.

Step 5: Season 1 XP and honest VC

Season 1 is the ladder for badge slots, tokens, REP, and the Level 40 cap breaker. Play the modes you will actually repeat. MyCAREER games, City runs, Daily Rivals, Starting 5 boards, and about 300 Player Medals all feed the same MyPLAYER. 2KTV is free VC: about 200 per question, and Episode 1 is about 2,400 if you know the 2KTV answers. Locker codes have not posted a trustworthy active list; do not type a screenshot from a random account.

Edition VC is still the bulk of a first build. Deluxe 100,000 and Ultra 135,000 cover most of a height-and-attribute plan. This wiki does not invent a single max-out total because it changes with the card. After the dump, use MyCAREER, City dailies, and the Pro Pass ladder (up to 45,000 VC) instead of VC sellers.

Platforms, PC, and what not to do in week one

PC minimum is Windows 10 64-bit, Core i5-9400 or Ryzen 5 1400, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1060 5 GB / RX 5500 XT 4 GB / Arc A580, DirectX 12, 110 GB SSD, AVX2, and feature level 12.0. Recommended is Windows 11, i5-10600 or Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB, RTX 2070 8 GB / RX 5700 8 GB / Arc A770. Install on SSD. Do not expect last-gen muscle memory to port cleanly; the dunk meter and cutoff stick are new homework.

Week-one mistakes that actually cost money: buying Ultra for a cover athlete you will never see in Rec, spending the edition dump on a 6’4” iso guard because a streamer did, skipping Learn 2K, queueing Rec on a gray plate, ignoring Casual Corner, and chasing fake VC generators. Do the five steps. Then open the next guide that matches tonight’s mode.

The first week is won by people who do not waste the edition dump and who refuse Rec until the tick mark is automatic. Keep Getting Started as a checklist, not as lore. When the worldwide launch date hits on September 4, 2026, Standard owners should still run this same order: edition you already own, builder you already locked in HQ, Learn 2K, Casual Corner, then Season 1. Early Access players who skipped those steps are not ahead; they are just louder. Be the player who shows up with a 99 plan, a greenable jumper, and a plate that belongs on the court you queued.
