NBA 2K27 uses three cover athletes for three editions. Victor Wembanyama fronts the Standard Edition. Caitlin Clark fronts the Deluxe Edition. Derrick Rose fronts the Ultra Edition. That split is marketing and SKU design, not a ranking of who is “better in the game.” Wembanyama is also a 97 overall with a 99 block. Clark and Rose are on the box because 2K wanted a WNBA face on Deluxe and a Chicago MVP story on Ultra, not because they sit next to SGA on the Top 16 table.
Early Access for Deluxe and Ultra began August 26, 2026 at 9:00 AM PT. The worldwide launch date is September 4, 2026. Ultra is a limited digital SKU through September 6, 2026. If you are buying Rose’s cover for the extra VC and season passes, read editions before the window closes. If you only want the Wemby box on a shelf, Standard is the physical-friendly SKU and the only edition on Nintendo Switch 2.
Victor Wembanyama — Standard Edition
Wembanyama is the rare cover that also leads the official ratings. He shares 97 overall with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic and holds the 99 block. Season 1 in The City and MyTEAM is framed around him as well — the first season ladder uses Wemby as the face, with cosmetics, badge tokens, and a Level 40 cap breaker on the free track. That does not mean Standard includes Early Access. Standard is $69.99, includes the pre-order 10,000 VC if you bought before launch, and does not include the Deluxe or Ultra VC piles.

Caitlin Clark — Deluxe Edition
Clark is the Deluxe cover. Deluxe is $99.99 digital on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. It includes 100,000 VC, up to nine days of Early Access (which began August 26, 2026), MyCAREER boosts and jerseys (including Wembanyama and Clark jerseys), and MyTEAM packs that are unauctionable. Switch 2 does not get Deluxe.
Clark on the box is a statement that 2K is selling a WNBA star on the mid SKU, not a claim that she is a 97 on the NBA Top 100. If you bought Deluxe for Early Access and VC, you already got the mechanical reason. If you bought Deluxe only because of the cover photo, you still received the VC and boosts — use them on a build, not on a second cover athlete you will never see in Rec.
Derrick Rose — Ultra Edition
Rose returns as an Ultra cover, the youngest MVP story 2K has told on a box before (he fronted NBA 2K13). Ultra is $149.99 digital on the same three platforms as Deluxe. It includes everything Deluxe includes, then adds 35,000 more VC (135,000 edition VC total), Season 1 Pro Pass, Summer Pass (Seasons 7–9 Pro Passes), the Roses Oversize Hoodie in MyCAREER, and guaranteed MyTEAM cards via The Exchange (a 98 overall in December 2026 and an Invincible in May 2027).
Ultra is limited through September 6, 2026. After that window, do not assume the SKU stays on every storefront. Season 1 still uses Rose as a ladder payoff — the Level 40 MyTEAM card on the Pro Pass track is a Dark Matter Derrick Rose — so the cover and the season are in conversation even if you skip Ultra. Cover art is not a MyPLAYER
A cover athlete does not come with a finished Park template. Wemby’s 99 block does not put Legend badges on your Rec center. Clark’s Deluxe jerseys do not change shooting windows. Rose’s hoodie does not raise ball handle. Spend the edition VC on height, wingspan, and badge thresholds. If you want the mechanical list of what each SKU includes, stay on editions. If you want the overall table, stay on player ratings.
MyTEAM will keep reprinting these three faces. The City will keep selling Wemby season cosmetics. None of that is a reason to rebuild a 6’3 Tempo Architect into a 6’8 inside four because a cover trailer used a different dunk. Covers sell editions. Builds win possessions.
Wembanyama, Clark, and Rose split the boxes so 2K can sell Standard, Deluxe, and Ultra as different products. Buy the SKU for Early Access, VC, and passes — not because a cover made a 97 look taller — and treat Ultra’s September 6, 2026 cutoff as a store deadline, not as a ratings event.
